Previously, we went over how to change your provisioning scheme from ‘Thin Provisioning’ to ‘Thick Provisioning’ in vSphere 5.5 web client. This time we will do the reverse for going from ‘Thick Provisioned’ to ‘Thin Provisioned’.
- Log into your vSphere 5.5 web client
- Go to your ‘Hosts and Clusters’ view or the ‘VMs and Templates’ view
- Right click the VM and select ‘Clone to Virtual Machine’.
- Enter a name for the VM. In my case, I will be naming the VM ‘TL-XA1 (Clone)’
- Choose your Datacenter and than VM folder if applicable.
- Select your Cluster and Host. It will not matter which Host you choose.
- This next section is key. If you select ‘Same format as source’ you will have the same provisioning scheme as you did previously so be sure to select ‘Thin Provision’ for this go-around. Click ‘Next’
- Leave the three check boxes blank unless you want to do further customization.
- Review and click ‘Finish’. A new VM will be cloned with the new provisioning scheme.
- At this point, you can choose to back-up and archive the old VM and begin using your newly ‘Thin Provisioned’ VM.
Keep up the great work guyz.
